YA literature for middle schoolers

How do you feel about allowing middle school students (grades 6,7,8) to read Young Adult literature in a public school library media center? Do you feel they need parent permisssion forms? At public libraries, the YA books are labeled as YA and shelved together. What YA books and/or authors do you suggest?
